In this sequel to The Last Mrs. Parrish, Liv Constantine brings us back into the lives of Amber, Daphne, and the ever-scheming Jackson Parrish. With Jackson out of prison and Amber’s world unraveling, Daphne returns to Bishop’s Harbor after swearing she never would, only to get caught up in a dangerous game once again. Ghosts from the past resurface, alliances shift, and no one’s motives are ever what they seem.
As juicy as this sounds, I found The Next Mrs. Parrish to be filled with so many frustrating plot holes that I couldn't get past. I mean, Daphne knows what kind of person Jackson is, yet she drinks something he gives her?? Give me a break. And don’t even get me started on his completely made-up story about her not watching the kids - wouldn’t the police, at minimum, question where he was during all that?
Also, how do you get a phone call from the man who just put you in the hospital and not record it?! Who forgets about outdoor cameras in 2025?? Everything that happened felt completely preventable. And the FBI letting him use the bathroom alone before arresting him? Yeah, no. Of course he went out the window.
Then there’s that line:
“No matter what he’s done, he will always be the father of my children and so I’ll oversee his care and make sure he’s looked after.”
…Excuse me?? This man tortured you for years. He deserves zero sympathy. Kick him to the curb and let him rot.
I really wanted to like this one, but it ended up being a total miss for me. The twists weren’t believable, the characters made ridiculous choices, and it just didn’t live up to the suspense of the first book.
Have you read this book? What did you think?
