How to Make a Strawberry Lobster Cake (Using a Trader Joe’s Lemon Sheet Cake!)

Looking for a cute and simple dessert idea that's just a little unexpected? Let me show you how to make this adorable strawberry lobster cake! It’s perfect for summer parties, birthdays, or just because. The best part? It starts with a Trader Joe’s Lemon Sheet Cake, so you don’t even have to bake anything from scratch.

Here’s how to put it together:

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 Trader Joe’s Lemon Sheet Cake (or any flat frosted cake you like)

  • 5–6 fresh strawberries

  • A small paring knife

  • A cutting board

How to Build the Strawberry Lobster:

1. Make the Body:
Slice several strawberries into even, round slices. Arrange 5 strawberry slices in a vertical line down the middle of the cake to create the lobster's body. Overlap them slightly so it looks smooth and connected.

2. Add the Head:
Cut one strawberry in half vertically. Use one half (rounded side up) for the lobster’s head, placing it above the body slices.

3. Create the Claws:
Cut two strawberries into heart shapes. Place one heart on each side of the lobster’s head — these will be your lobster claws!

4. Make the Arms/Legs:
Slice 4 thin strips from the side of a strawberry. You'll need 8 strips total (4 on each side). Arrange them sticking out from the sides of the body, pointing slightly outward.

5. Build the Tail:
Use 4 strawberry slices to form the tail at the bottom of the body. Arrange them in a fan shape — one piece at the bottom center, and the other three slightly fanned out to the sides to create a full tail look.

6. Add the Antennae:
Take two small pointed slices (the tips of strawberries work great) and place them above the head, angling outward like lobster antennae.

Quick Summary:

  • Body: 5 round slices

  • Head: 1 half strawberry

  • Claws: 2 heart-shaped strawberry halves

  • Arms/Legs: 8 thin strawberry strips

  • Tail: 4 strawberry slices

  • Antennae: 2 small slices

Tips:

  • Pick strawberries that are roughly the same size for a neat, even body.

  • Pat your sliced strawberries dry with a paper towel if they're extra juicy so they stay in place.

  • You could even add tiny blueberry “eyes” above the head if you want to get fancy!

That's it! So simple, so cute — and honestly, it just makes everyone smile.
