Book Review: The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez

I just read The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez, the first book in her three-part series, and gave it 3.5 out of 5 stars. While it wasn’t my favorite, it was definitely entertaining and kept me flipping pages from the start!

The Premise:
Kristen Peterson is a no-nonsense, sarcastic, dog-obsessed woman who doesn’t have time for drama—or romance. Especially now, as she’s preparing for a medical procedure that’ll make it impossible for her to have kids. Enter Josh Copeland: the best man in her best friend’s wedding, who’s sweet, sexy, and dreams of having a big family someday.

Their chemistry is undeniable, but Kristen is determined to keep her distance. As their friendship deepens (along with their feelings), she’s torn between protecting Josh’s future and letting herself fall for him completely.

My Thoughts:
This one really balanced humor and heartbreak. I loved the friendship-to-lovers setup, and Kristen’s sass had me laughing more than once. That said, her stubbornness toward the end started to wear on me. And Josh? Sweet and lovable, but just not my type—though I still liked him as a character.

The story was super predictable—I knew she was going to end up pregnant. But the explanation? Saying her IUD probably came out with a heavy period? Wild. That part definitely made me raise an eyebrow.

Final Thoughts:
If you’re into:

  • Banter-heavy romance with emotional depth
  • Dogs who steal the show (hi, Stuntman Mike)
  • Wedding planning chaos
  • A love story that tackles real-life struggles like infertility and grief

Then The Friend Zone is worth checking out. Just prepare to roll your eyes once or twice... and maybe cry a little too.

Have you read this series? I’m jumping into The Happy Ever After Playlist next—fingers crossed it hits harder than this one!
