A Dark and Secret Magic by Wallis Kinney

This was such a cute story and absolutely perfect for starting spooky season. The characters were great, and I loved that I didn’t know where the story was going to take me. The ending was satisfying, and I especially loved that the author included recipes from the story in the back of the book.

The Premise:

Hecate “Kate” Goodwin has built the perfect quiet life as a hedge witch, living in a secluded cottage with her black cat and selling tinctures at her apothecary. She prefers solitude to company, but everything changes when her sister asks her to host the coven’s annual Halloween gathering—which also happens to fall on Kate’s birthday. As the pressure builds to make the celebration memorable, Kate is thrown off balance when Matthew Cypher, a man from her past who once tricked her, arrives asking for sanctuary.

While preparing for the event, Kate discovers a dark tome linked to her recently deceased mother, revealing secrets that challenge her idealized memories. With forbidden magic swirling around her and her growing closeness to Matthew, Kate must decide who she can really trust. This cozy and atmospheric story celebrates the Halloween season and the spirit of witches everywhere.

My Thoughts:

This was such a cute read and the perfect book to kick off spooky season. The characters were well done, and I had fun not being able to predict where the story was going next. The ending wrapped up beautifully, and I loved the added touch of having the recipes from the story included at the end of the book.

This was an enjoyable and festive read. If you’re looking for a cozy witchy story to get you into the Halloween spirit, this one is a must!
