I just finished my first Emily Henry book—Book Lovers—and I totally get the hype now. This was a charming rom-com with sharp banter, heartfelt moments, and a slow-burn romance that felt like slipping into something warm and familiar. It had just the right amount of emotion balanced with humor, and I found myself laughing out loud a few times.
Summary:
Nora Stephens is a literary agent who lives and breathes books, but she knows she’s not the typical heroine. She’s not quirky, not carefree, and definitely not the kind of girl who ends up barefoot in a field with a cinnamon roll guy. But when her little sister Libby begs her to take a sisters’ trip to Sunshine Falls, North Carolina, Nora reluctantly agrees. Libby’s got big hopes for Nora to find her own small-town love story and become the “main character” for once.
But instead of a charming local love interest, Nora keeps running into Charlie Lastra—a broody editor she already knows from back in the city. Sparks fly (grudgingly), banter happens, and the rest is a slow, sweet unraveling.
My Thoughts:
I gave this one 4.25/5 stars. It was a little slow at times, but in a way that made sense for the story. It’s a nice, steady slow burn that gives you time to really get to know the characters. Nora and Charlie’s dynamic is full of clever, sometimes snarky banter, and I loved that their relationship was built on mutual respect and real emotional depth.
The relationship between Nora and her sister Libby was also a huge highlight. There’s so much heart in their story, and I loved how it explored the sacrifices we make for family and what it means to take up space in our own lives.
If you like:
Bookish settings and publishing world vibes
Enemies-to-lovers with excellent banter
Sister dynamics that are just as important as the romance
Small-town romance without all the tropes feeling forced
Then this one is worth picking up. I can’t wait to read more from Emily Henry now—drop your favorites in the comments!
