Book Review: Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Sex, Drugs, and Rock ‘n’ Roll... and Heartbreak

If you’ve ever wished you could time-travel to the 1970s and follow a legendary rock band on the rise and fall of their fame, this book is the next best thing. I just finished Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid and—wow. I gave it 4.75 stars.

The Premise:

Everyone knows Daisy Jones & The Six, the iconic rock band that burned hot and fast before breaking up at the peak of their success. But no one ever knew the real story behind the drama—until now. This novel is told in a totally unique oral history format, like a behind-the-scenes documentary transcript, with each band member (and those around them) reflecting on the events that led up to their explosive split.

Daisy is wild, talented, and effortlessly magnetic. Billy is intense, ambitious, and trying to keep it all together as fame threatens to swallow him whole. When their voices—and lives—collide, the result is both electric and volatile. This is the story of how music made magic, and how people got lost (and sometimes found) in the process.

My Thoughts:

loved the way this book was written. It’s so different from anything else I’ve read. The interview-style storytelling made everything feel so real—like I had to keep reminding myself this wasn’t an actual band (They are on Spotify though).

The characters are so well-developed, from Daisy’s chaotic brilliance to Billy’s inner struggle, and even the supporting characters felt like fully-formed people. And Daisy? If I grew up in the 70s, she’s exactly who I’d want to be—bold, free, unapologetically herself (and maybe a little unhinged, but in the best way).

Final Thoughts:

If you’re into:

  • Music documentaries or Behind the Music vibes

  • Complicated, messy characters you can’t help but love

  • Stories about love, fame, addiction, and creativity

  • That gritty, golden-era rock nostalgia

You’ll want to add this to your TBR right now. Just be prepared to wish the band was real.

Have you read Daisy Jones & The Six? Or seen the show adaptation? I’d love to hear your thoughts! I'm going to binge the show this weekend!
