I’ve read and loved several Abby Jimenez books, so I was excited to pick this one up. Unfortunately, Say You’ll Remember Me didn’t quite hit the mark for me. It had some sweet moments and the signature witty banter Abby is known for, but the plot had a few holes I just couldn’t overlook.
The Premise:
Samantha isn’t looking for anything serious; her family is going through a lot, and her focus is on helping them, not dating. But then she meets Xavier Rush. He’s hot, a vet, and basically walking around with Greek god energy... all while cuddling a kitten. It’s a meet-cute out of a movie.
Things get off to a rocky start thanks to Xavier’s terrible first impression, but once he realizes his mistake, he’s determined to make it right. After one incredible date, everything seems possible, until Samantha pulls away, insisting they forget it ever happened. But forgetting proves harder than either of them expected.
My Thoughts:
The setup was cute, and I loved the chemistry between Samantha and Xavier at first. That initial tension and their banter kept me engaged. But as the story moved along, things started to feel a little off.
There were some plot holes that made it hard to stay fully immersed. The biggest one for me was Xavier giving up his entire veterinary practice to move to California. That just didn’t feel believable, especially given how little time they’d actually spent together. I wanted to root for them, but it all felt a little too neat in the end.
Everything wrapped up with a tidy bow, which might work for some readers, but for me it lacked the emotional depth and realism I’ve come to expect from Abby’s other books.
Final Thoughts:
This one just wasn’t my favorite. It had moments I liked, but overall, it didn’t deliver the same magic as Abby Jimenez’s earlier books. If you’re already a fan, it might be worth a read, but I’d recommend starting with The Friend Zone or Part of Your World if you’re new to her work.
If you’ve read it, I’d love to know your thoughts.. did the ending work for you? Or did it feel like a stretch too?
