Book Review: The Five-Star Weekend by Elin Hilderbrand

The Five-Star Weekend by Elin Hilderbrand was so good! I absolutely love the idea of a girls weekend with four of your best friends throughout your life. It got me thinking, "who would I invite to my five-star weekend?"

After her husband Matthew dies in a car crash following a heated argument, food blogger Hollis falls into a deep depression. Inspired by an article, she decides to host her own "Five-Star Weekend" on Nantucket, inviting one close female friend from each major era of her life.

Hollis curates her guest list to include:
  • Tatum: Her childhood best friend who still lives on Nantucket, who has been strangely distant.
  • Dru-Ann: Her college roommate from UNC, now a prominent sports broadcaster dealing with a massive online cancellation.
  • Brooke: Her friend from her thirties (the mothering era) who is quietly dealing with her husband's infidelity.
  • Gigi: A super-fan and internet friend whom Hollis has never met in real life.
While Hollis intended for a peaceful and curated healing retreat, the weekend quickly becomes chaotic. Tatum's husband secretly invites Hollis's high school sweetheart, Jack Finigan, reigniting old feelings. Meanwhile, Tatum is facing a terrifying medical crisis (a pending biopsy) that she is keeping from Hollis, and Dru-Ann and Brooke are battling their own public and private relationship scandals. As the weekend progresses, the biggest shock involves Gigi, who harbors hidden motives for infiltrating Hollis's life and blog community.

I absolutely loved this book. This is the third Elin Hilderbrand book I've read, and I love her writing very much - she has not let me down yet! I thought each character was unique and had depth and growth, the story line was well written without any major plot holes, and was not male-centered. I get why they made this into a tv show! It comes out July 9th on Peacock.

Have you read this book, and/or will you watch the tv show?
