I just finished Truly Yours by Abby Jimenez and gave it a solid 4 out of 5 stars. It’s sweet, emotional, and full of the signature heart and humor that Abby writes so well. Also, fun fact: I accidentally read this series backwards! This is book two in the Part of Your World series, but it stands perfectly on its own.
The Premise:
Dr. Briana Ortiz is not having a good year. Her divorce is dragging out, her brother desperately needs a kidney, and the new guy at work? Already at the top of her enemies list. But just when she’s ready to write him off forever, Dr. Jacob Maddox sends her a letter.
A really good letter. And soon they’re writing back and forth, having lunch in the “sob closet,” and bonding over everything from personal heartbreak to tiny horses. Just as Briana starts to let her guard down, Jacob does something huge - he offers to be a kidney donor for her brother. But when things start to get serious, Briana’s past trauma makes her push him away.
My Thoughts:
I loved that Jacob was portrayed with severe anxiety - something not often shown in male love interests, and it made him so much more real and relatable. Their connection built slowly through letters and quiet moments, which I really enjoyed.
That said, SPOILER ALERT: the whole “he loves someone else” misunderstanding dragged on a bit too long for me, and Briana’s reaction to her surprise pregnancy felt over-the-top (though I get it was trauma-based). Still, the banter, emotional depth, and happily-ever-after made it worth it.
Final Thoughts:
If you’re into:
- Slow burn romances with great character development
- Workplace rom-coms with emotional stakes
- Stories featuring mental health, forgiveness, and growth
- A mix of heavy themes and laugh-out-loud moments
Add Truly Yours to your list. Especially if you’ve already read Just for the Summer - this fills in the backstory so well!
Have you read the Part of Your World series yet? Which book is your favorite?
